Soft Washing vs. Pressure Washing: What's the Difference?

June 15, 2026 · PropertyWorx

"Pressure washing" gets used as a catch-all for cleaning the outside of a house, but there are really two different methods, and using the wrong one on the wrong surface is exactly how siding gets damaged. Here's the simple version.

Pressure washing

This is high-pressure water, and it's the right call for hard surfaces: concrete driveways, walkways, patios, pavers, brick and steps. Those can take the force, and the pressure is what blasts out the embedded dirt, moss and tire marks. That's what our pressure washing service is for.

Soft washing

Soft washing is low pressure plus a cleaning solution. It's the right call for delicate surfaces: vinyl and wood siding, soffits, and roofs. Instead of blasting the surface, the solution kills the algae and mildew at the root and rinses it away gently. That's what we use for house washing.

Why it matters

Here's the trap: high pressure on siding can force water behind it, crack the surface, and strip the finish. It might look clean for a week, but you've done damage. Soft washing gets siding just as clean without the risk, and because the growth is treated rather than just sprayed off, it stays clean longer.

The short version: hard surfaces get pressure, siding and roofs get soft wash. The good news is you don't have to figure out which is which, that's our job. We match the method to the surface on every visit.
